The American Lutheran Congregation of Oslo is an English-speaking international, ecumenical congregation affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.  It's ministry is directed to the English speaking short-term and long-term residents of the city, as well as embassy personnel, foreign students, refugees and tourists. We are from many denominations. Here in Oslo we experience what it is to be one in Christ. Our members and friends include Lutherans, Anglicans, Methodists, Norwegian State Church members, Roman Catholics, Presbyterians, Baptists, Pentecostals... We are from many nations. Here in Oslo we demonstrate the world-wide nature of the Body of Christ. Our members and friends are from the U.S.A., Norway, Australia, Great Britain, Scotland, Canada, India, Pakistan, Japan, China, Ghana, Iran, Turkey, South Africa, Korea, Hungary, Finland, Tanzania, Brazil, Latvia... We worship together every Sunday morning at 11:00 am. Sunday School and Nursery care is provided. Come and Join us! |

The mission of the American Lutheran Congregation is to bring people of different nations and denomiations together and, using the English Language, empower them to become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ. The congregation is also involved in special mission projects in Norway and outside of Norway. We work with refugees and new immigrants to Norway in the proclamation of God's love through Jesus Christ. In 2006 the congregation adopted the support and building of the Redemption Children's Home in Damongo, Ghana, West Africa. Members are encouraged to travel to Ghana to work and witness, share their skill and God's love through this project We also support the Sabona project in Zimbabwe, Africa that was started by a young member of the congregation. The presence of a sizable group of Americans in Oslo following World War II gave rise to the desire for an American Church. The work of organizing the New congregation was placed in the hands of Dr. Oscar C. Hanson. His dedicated labors through two years of work laid a strong foundation for the congregation. The first service was held on October 12, 1958. The generosity of members and friends in Norway and American and the support of the parent church body in America made possible the building of the beautiful church body in America made possible the building of the beautiful church at Fritznersgt. 15, which was dedicated in October 1964. "Christ the King", the impressive bronze figure which graces the facade of the church exterior, is the creation of Professor Egon Weiner, formerly of the Chicago Art Institute. It was dedicated on August 27, 1967. Since Dr. Oscar Hanson's pastorate, the congregation has been served by the following pastors: Dr. George Aus, the Rev. Myrus Knutson, the Rev. Arnold W. Nelson, the Rev. James R. Long, the Rev. Harry T. Cleven, the Rev. Richard A. Solberg, the Rev. Norman P. Belland, and the Rev. Guy Redfield. The Rev. Stephan Kienberger is the current pastor. |
